Zora Neale Hurston  (January 07, 1891-January 28, 1960

Zora Neale Hurston , recognized as a major novelist, folklorist and anthropologist, was raised in Eatonville, Florida, the nation’s oldest incorporated African-American community.  The strength of that community never left Hurston, allowing her to develop her self-assurance, her storytelling skills, her love of black people and their rich heritage.

Through her two Florida based novels, Jonah’s Gourd Vine (1934) and Their Eyes Were Watching God (1937), her two books of folklore, her autobiographies, and numerous articles Zora Neale Hurston has recorded that history and through its’ reading we understand more clearly the history of the world in which we live.  Please join us for “Exploring Zora” events at the Library.  For more information please click HERE.  For directions HERE.
